Short answer: A wireless CarPlay adapter works with any car or aftermarket stereo that already has wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. That is roughly 97% of vehicles built since 2016 from Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, RAM, Jeep, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Acura and 30+ more brands. The known exceptions are Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Polestar and NIO (no CarPlay at all) and BMW models from 2019 onward (a locked wireless-only implementation). If your car has no CarPlay, the standalone AutoLinkr Tablet™ works in any vehicle.
The 30-second compatibility test
- Plug your phone into the car's USB data port with a cable.
- If the screen offers Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, an AutoLinkr adapter will work in that port.
- If the car only charges the phone or shows a basic Bluetooth menu, the car has no CarPlay. Choose the Tablet™ instead.
Trim levels matter: a 2017 base model may lack CarPlay while the same year's higher trim has it. When unsure, email support@theautolinkr.com with the year, make, model and trim and the team will confirm.
Brands and model years that work with AutoLinkr adapters

This table summarizes the full make-by-make list on the AutoLinkr compatibility page, which you can browse by manufacturer.
Which AutoLinkr model do you need?
- Car has wired CarPlay or Android Auto: Lite™ (wireless only), Pro™ (adds Netflix, YouTube, Play Store) or Elite™ (adds split-screen and more power).
- Car already has wireless CarPlay: Pro™ or Elite™ still add streaming apps; the Lite™ adds nothing.
- Car has no CarPlay or Android Auto: Tablet™, a 7-inch portable CarPlay and streaming screen powered from the 12V socket.
Phone requirements
- iPhone: iPhone 7 or newer on iOS 10 or later (all current iPhones qualify). Keep iOS updated.
- Android: Android 11 or later with the Android Auto app installed.
USB-A or USB-C port?
Both. Every AutoLinkr adapter ships with USB-A and USB-C cables, so newer cars with USB-C CarPlay ports (many 2022+ Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and GM models) are covered.
Frequently asked questions
My car has two USB ports. Which one do I use?
The data port, usually marked with a phone or CarPlay icon. Charge-only ports (often marked with a lightning bolt) will power the adapter but not connect it.
Will it work with factory wireless CarPlay?
Yes for Pro™ and Elite™: they connect to the wired port and add streaming apps. The car's own wireless CarPlay can be left as is.
What if I buy it and it doesn't work in my car?
Return it within 30 days of delivery for store credit, no questions asked. In the US a prepaid label is emailed to you.
Does the adapter work in rental cars or a second car?
Yes. It is fully portable; plug it into any compatible car and pair once.
